Writer, Award-Winning Author, and Certified Editor

I'm an award-winning author with 25 years writing experience, and I'm also a certified editor that has a BA in English. I know about writing and I know about publishing. Two of my books are traditionally published and I published three independently. I've worked with editors, designers, and publishers to create books I'm proud of.

I post to my WordPress blog weekly and create audio to go along with each post. For this, I use Audacity. Recently, I've helped clients preserve their family stories in digital text form and in audio interviews. I've had several years of experience as a newspaper columnist, and I still contribute to the local newspaper.

My passion is storytelling. I especially enjoy history around which I can weave a colourful narrative. The volunteer editing work I began in August is showing me that while I love telling stories, I'm also engaged by the editing process.

I'd love to hear about your fiction or non-fiction project. Please get in touch and let's talk about how we can make your work shine!

Growing Resentment

This is a piece I wrote while I was still teaching full time. It feels familiar today because I’m back teaching from now until the end of June. It’s nice to be back in the classroom, but I’m really glad I didn’t put in a big garden. I […]

Natural Hot Springs Adventure

“If you want to save some money, there is a natural hot spring down by the river’s edge. It’s beautiful and hardly anyone ever goes down there. Just follow the second logging road in through the trees. You’ll find it.” The woman at the tourist information centre made […]

Something New Around Every Corner

We’ve been to Jasper National Park several times so I don’t know how we missed these attractions during previous visits. When we discovered Lakes Edith and Annette, Maligne Canyon, and Maligne Lake, I asked myself, “Have I even visited this national park before now?” That’s the kind […]

Love in May

No wonder I first fell in love in May! Walking down a village sidewalk yesterday, I breathed in deeply the sweet air and remembered falling in love that first time. The sky was a cloudless blue above me and against this background huge purple lilac flowers bloomed, apple […]

Room to Grow

There was barely room for me in the car! I had garbage bags stuffed with bottles and cans in the trunk and rattling away on the passenger side floor and seat. Behind the driver’s seat tilted an old amplifier. A huge comforter, bed skirt, and bags of clothes, […]

Springtime in Alberta

It’s springtime in my neck of the woods. The water is running in the rivers and the frogs are croaking. The willows that border the sloughs are getting ready to leaf out.   We had the chance to visit Banff, Alberta this April. I’ve been to Banff […]

Words in a China Shop

My mom had a saying: Don’t be a bull in a china shop. Nowadays there are not so many china shops around, but you get the picture. She was advising against going into tight, delicate situations and moving through them clumsily and aggressively. Also, sometimes when we were […]

Wrinkle Perspective

“Do I look wrinkly?” I asked my husband the other morning while preparing for work. “A little,” he answered. I was referring to my un-pressed cotton shirt. He was referring to my skin. I frowned and then we laughed.     Listen to me read this classic post: […]

Difficult, Not Impossible

I’m done refinishing the ceiling in the main part of our house. I can’t believe it. There were so many times during this project that I thought it was an impossible job. “Why did I start? The house will be a mess forever! I’ll only ever get this […]
