My friend Dave ambled around the side of the house and into my backyard today as I was working. Not expecting anyone to visit and being focused on my work, I jumped out of my skin. He laughed and then we talked about calves and gardening while his […]
Writer, Award-Winning Author, and Certified Editor
I'm an award-winning author with 25 years writing experience, and I'm also a certified editor that has a BA in English. I know about writing and I know about publishing. Two of my books are traditionally published and I published three independently. I've worked with editors, designers, and publishers to create books I'm proud of.
I post to my WordPress blog weekly and create audio to go along with each post. For this, I use Audacity. Recently, I've helped clients preserve their family stories in digital text form and in audio interviews. I've had several years of experience as a newspaper columnist, and I still contribute to the local newspaper.
My passion is storytelling. I especially enjoy history around which I can weave a colourful narrative. The volunteer editing work I began in August is showing me that while I love telling stories, I'm also engaged by the editing process.
I'd love to hear about your fiction or non-fiction project. Please get in touch and let's talk about how we can make your work shine!
Wow. I’ve just had a most-rewarding experience. I’ve been fortunate to publish three of my own books. I worked with book designers, e-book producers, editors, and printers. I learned how to get ISBNs and how to get catalogue in publication information. By the time I published three books, […]
Hello again! After I posted my most recent Mexico travel piece, a reader asked me to share my carry-on packing secrets. This is a post I wrote the first time I packed super lightly and it includes a few handy tips. I hope you can use some of […]
A Garden Oasis in the City We arrived home on Friday from a nine-day trip to the coastal city of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. This charming little city is a favourite of mine. During this trip we stayed right downtown in the Romantic Zone, about two blocks […]
This is an elaborate scam that almost got me and I’m pretty smart, so I am warning you to beware. The invitation to a job interview came from Brookfield Communities, an award-winning homebuilding company. After going through a text interview (who does that?), I was hired within four […]
Hello! Yesterday was our first really warm day with the temperature sneaking up close to 20° Celsius. That’s all the encouragement the leaves on the trees needed. They were reluctant in the howling wind and 4° temperatures to pop out, but today in the warm wind, they all […]
Jack Taylor: my latest Netflix recommendation This was so good! This murder mystery series contains nine, hour-and-a-half episodes. Each one is based on a novel from the Jack Taylor series written by Ken Bruen. Each one stands alone as if it’s a movie, but the main characters […]
Marie Kondo would be proud! After watching some of Ms. Kondo’s Netflix episodes, we trekked off to the Dollar Store and bought all shapes and sizes of containers for organizing the stuff in our lives. This was great but I went at the organizing task with so […]
Hey, fellow Albertans, remember AGT (Alberta Government Telephones) and how we all hated that regulated organization back in the day? Well, maybe not everyone hated the communication service, but as a kid the only comments I remember from my seniors about it were negative. Mostly it was all […]
Yesterday morning and the evening before, I went for a walk and brought my camera with me so that I could share with you the miracle of resurrection here in the parkland region of east-central Alberta. Listen to me read this post: Crocuses Galore! I didn’t even notice […]
