Lately, I’ve been dreaming about cats. The other night I dreamt that a half-grown grey cat brought a small mouse into the garage where I was working. The cat set the dead mouse down a couple metres from me (physically distancing herself) and began picking away delicately […]
Writer, Award-Winning Author, and Certified Editor
I'm an award-winning author with 25 years writing experience, and I'm also a certified editor that has a BA in English. I know about writing and I know about publishing. Two of my books are traditionally published and I published three independently. I've worked with editors, designers, and publishers to create books I'm proud of.
I post to my WordPress blog weekly and create audio to go along with each post. For this, I use Audacity. Recently, I've helped clients preserve their family stories in digital text form and in audio interviews. I've had several years of experience as a newspaper columnist, and I still contribute to the local newspaper.
My passion is storytelling. I especially enjoy history around which I can weave a colourful narrative. The volunteer editing work I began in August is showing me that while I love telling stories, I'm also engaged by the editing process.
I'd love to hear about your fiction or non-fiction project. Please get in touch and let's talk about how we can make your work shine!
Amid all this time and space the COVID-19 pandemic has given me, I decided that I want more mental and physical room in which to move around. I want to clean out some of the old stuff and clear a space where creativity can flourish and where a […]
Here’s a re-post of a family history story I wrote a few Easters back now. A lot has changed since then but a lot has stayed the same, too. Take care and thanks for reading. – Lori My grandma didn’t like living on the farm. Well, not most […]
I was just thinking about how it doesn’t feel much like Easter. When I woke up this morning, some dry snowflakes were drifting down from the lead-grey sky, and that felt about right. It’s been a mixed time in my life. I myself, this being, am just fine. […]
Hi there! Welcome to my post about nothing in particular. I posted a new blog yesterday and I wanted to mention some of these things there, but they just didn’t fit. So here I am, putting those bits and pieces together, a jumble of fun in the midst […]
It’s astonishing how quickly the world can change both on individual and collective levels. It’s also surprising how while disasters touch some, others are left relatively (or completely) unscathed. Me? I’m pretty much unscathed. We booked a last-minute trip to Mazatlán, Sinaloa, MX, just before the world went […]
Do you know what a foreign accent is? It’s a sign of bravery. – Amy Chua He approached us as we stood on the corner studying Google Maps on my husband’s phone and asked, “Can I help you find something?” I glanced up and there he stood with a […]
Hello everyone! Here’s a St. Paddy’s Day repost. I hope it makes you smile. (I love the song by Rawlins Cross posted at the end.) Take care of yourselves and each other. – Lori Happy St. Patrick’s Day! This day always reminds me of when I taught Grade […]
Here’s a post I wrote a while ago about an unexpected experience at a river’s edge where there was a natural hot spring. I think next time I’ll spend the $6.00. I’ll miss the naked guy, but I’ll appreciate a shower and a nice place to change. Take […]
Here’s a repost all about how I don’t like being categorized as one type of writer or another. I can’t choose between genres and I can’t pretend to be one thing. I’m multi-facetet, so take what you like and leave the rest. We try to sort people into […]
