Silas House remembers Tom Petty: “We embraced strangers and threw our heads back and sang. This was a kind of church, too, I thought. A room full of love in a way I’d never experienced before.” via We Got Lucky: My Life with Tom Petty — Discover
Writer, Award-Winning Author, and Certified Editor
I'm an award-winning author with 25 years writing experience, and I'm also a certified editor that has a BA in English. I know about writing and I know about publishing. Two of my books are traditionally published and I published three independently. I've worked with editors, designers, and publishers to create books I'm proud of.
I post to my WordPress blog weekly and create audio to go along with each post. For this, I use Audacity. Recently, I've helped clients preserve their family stories in digital text form and in audio interviews. I've had several years of experience as a newspaper columnist, and I still contribute to the local newspaper.
My passion is storytelling. I especially enjoy history around which I can weave a colourful narrative. The volunteer editing work I began in August is showing me that while I love telling stories, I'm also engaged by the editing process.
I'd love to hear about your fiction or non-fiction project. Please get in touch and let's talk about how we can make your work shine!
Here’s a great post by Amy Henry. Enjoy! “Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! We are happy in proportion to the things we can do without.” (Henry David Thoreau) I’m about to say something so heretical, I can already hear the gasps of disbelief and nervous laughter all the way from […]
Someone recently told me, “Women often feel embarrassed about their age. You seem proud.” Darn right. I’m proud and happy. A Very Strange Idea Even though I grew up in this culture, it remains a very strange idea to me that anyone should feel ashamed of living long. […]

The only journey is the one within. (Rainer Maria Rilke) In the interest of full disclosure, I’ll state upfront that I have often—half jokingly, half seriously—referred to life as a minefield. Running, running down the days, the years, in pursuit of life, liberty, and…
Hello everyone! I hope you’ve had a nice Thursday so far. Since I wrote this post a few years back (I think I was still teaching then) I left Facebook and have been off for almost year. It’s been very refreshing, but I do miss kind, consistent communication […]
Good evening! It’s been a busy week and it’s only Tuesday. That’s the Christmas season for you. I was looking over my previous posts and I really like this one. It ran in our local newspaper last year. It’s all about family history and the stories we […]
“Because to everything there is a season, and the season for ‘trying on identities like costumes’ is somewhere between the ages of seventeen and twenty-six. Anything beyond that, and all you’re actually doing is simply ‘wearing a costume.’” via Eulogy For an Aging Book Guy — Discover
At dinner the other night, my auntie and uncle told me about their recent experience of watching one sparrow brutally kill another. It reminded me of this post I wrote a while back. The backyard was full of twittering birds. All three feeders were full of seed, and […]
As I’m re-reading this post from a couple of years ago, I realize that I’ve lived here now for as long as I lived in the house I grew up in. It’s been 14 years since we moved here and nearly 15 years since I purchased Grandma’s house […]
Is there anything better than butter and sugar melting together in a heavy pot? I don’t think so. Of course, this is subjective. Some of you are thinking that there is something better! But for me, these days, nothing is better than butter and sugar together. I love […]
