Canada Waits For Christmas – December 7th

Sometimes when you had one of those cardboard Advent calendars as a child, you got busy and didn’t open one of the doors until the following day. This is exactly what’s happening here.

Here are Bob & Doug McKenzie and Geddy Lee from Rush performing “Take Off.” Bob (Rick Moranis) and Doug (Dave Thomas) were created for the Canadian comedy sketch show SCTV in its third season when it began broadcasting on CBC Television in 1980. The duo was invented as filler between sketches and to satisfy Canadian content requirements. (We call it CanCon.) Bob & Doug became a pop culture sensation here in Canada and in the US, too.

Robert Bateman is a Canadian painter and naturalist born in Toronto, Ontario in 1930. This image is of his painting called “Coyote in Winter Sage.”

Thank you for stopping by. There’s a full moon tonight shining softly through a thin gauze of clouds, ghostly and beautiful.

Take care. – Lori

  1. I still have one of those cardboard advent calendars! I’m not sure how I feel about the ones containing sweets and gifts. Cardboard ones aren’t easy to find, but luckily I’ve found a range that I love and I just buy from there every year.
